Moclinejo is located at 451 metres above sea level in a mountainous area near the peaks of Piedras Blancas 673 metres and Cordoba 708 metres. It is thought to be of Arab origin or possibly Roman, the name Moclinetum could have been the original appellation. The extensive vineyards of this village were devastated by the outbreak of phylloxera in 1878. Indeed it was in this municipality where the scourge was first detected in a location called La Indiana. The town is typical of the region with narrow steep streets and flower bedecked windows. The visitor can admire the church of Nuestra de Gracia which was constructed during the 16th and 17th centuries. The church tower has decorative Arab arches. There is good access to the town by road and the local wine served in the village bars is known for its excellence.
